Ann Sessoms Royal Memorial Scholarship
After working at FTCC for 37 years, Sarah Gibbs retired in October 2020 as Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Administrative Services. During her time on campus, Sarah enjoyed working with students and making lifelong friends. Sarah states, “My time at FTCC can be summed up as a sense of pride, gratefulness, and excitement as I worked with students and acquired many friendships second to none.”
Establishing a scholarship to honor her mother, Ann Sessoms Royal, was the perfect way for Sarah to express her love of FTCC. When Sarah’s mother died unexpectedly at age 59, she had served the Fayetteville community for 30 years as a devoted Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Mrs. Royal loved people, and more importantly, she loved to help people.
The FTCC nursing program is dedicated to helping people. It was a natural fit to continue Mrs. Royal’s legacy by establishing a nursing scholarship at FTCC. Sarah says it best, “My family and I have a sincere desire to help students at FTCC pursue and achieve their dream in the nursing profession just like our mom.”
