Belk Nursing Scholarship
Janet Kathryn Farris Belk was born 1937 in Boonville, MO. She was the fourth of six children raised by hard working farmers. A foundation of hard work instilled strength and perseverance, cultivating a self-sufficient “never quit” work ethic with high standards for herself and others.
Jan and her husband, Ken, relocated to Fayetteville in 1972 through military assignment. She worked with the Cumberland County Schools in Child Nutrition for 27 years.
Jan made her home in Fayetteville for nearly 50 years as a strong, independent woman with a variety of talents and interests. An accomplished crafter, her hobbies included sewing, cooking, needle point, and cross-stitch.
Jan enjoyed taking classes at FTCC including auto repair, Japanese cooking, and real estate. In 2014, she created the Belk Scholarship for Nursing out of love and admiration for the nurses she knew and who had cared for her.
Janet Belk passed away peacefully on December 2, 2021 at the age of 84.
This scholarship is for a student enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program and who is a single parent.
