The Parshotam L. & Pratibha R. Juneja and Shanti & Chuni Lall Sawhney Excellence Reward Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Pratibha Rani Juneja’s parents, Shanti and C.L. Sawhney. Shanti and C.L. Sawhney were married in India in 1935. They were married for 72 years and resided in New Delhi, India. Mr. and Mrs. Sawhney had six children; they had three sons and three daughters. Education was extremely important to the Sawhney family. All six children were highly educated and some went on to become doctors, engineers, and teachers in India and in USA.
Pratibha Rani Juneja “MUNNA” considers her parents a precious gift from God. They instilled many great lessons in her life and made sacrifices for her to obtain an education. She stated that her parents were heroes in her life and she is grateful for the development they encouraged in her. Mrs. Juneja’s parents were kind, hardworking, and giving. Family was important to her parents and they made it a priority to always keep the family together. Her mother was a lifelong learner and was learning English even at the age of 92 years old.
Shanti and C.L. Sawhney loved to travel. Hong Kong was their favorite destination. They spoke five languages. Mr. Sawhney held a Master of Science in Botany. He was very interested in math and science. His occupation later took him down the path to become an IRS Customs Attorney. Mrs. Sawhney was a housewife who loved her children dearly. It was her desire that her daughters grow up to become independent women. She wanted them to be educated, hardworking, and contribute to society. This was during a period when women did not typically work outside of the home. Mrs. Sawhney was an inspiration to her children. She empowered them with education and taught them to be caring, passionate, confident, and to value an individuals self-worth. Education empowers self-confidence, independence,
and allows one to be self-supporting.
Shanti and C.L. Sawhney believed in charity, Arya Samaj, and in education. Because of these characteristics engrained in Mr. and Mrs. Juneja by her parents, she wants to celebrate the life of her late husband, Parshotam “Paul” Juneja, by giving the gift of education to other children. This gift marks the one-year anniversary of Paul’s passing (August 9, 2021).
