Larry D. Vick Mentoring Scholarship
Larry Vick is a lawyer, educator, and retired US Army officer. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Brown University in 1973, and a Juris Doctor degree from Rutgers University School of Law in 1976. Over the course of a 30 plus year legal career, he gained admittance to the New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina state bars as well as to the federal district bars of New Jersey and North Carolina. In 1983, he was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. His area of legal expertise are criminal law and sex discrimination.
Before becoming a full-time educator, he served as a member of the US Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps from 1977 to 1997. His assignments included serving as a prosecutor, defense counsel, and military judge. His last assignment was as the Staff Judge Advocate for the US Army Armor Center and Fort Knox. He retired upon obtaining the rank of Colonel and receiving the Legion of Merit award.
His experience as an educator includes teaching at both the high school and community college level. At the community college level, he instructed at Fayetteville Technical Community College from 1997 until his retirement in 2018. During his years of instructing at FTCC, he taught a variety of courses in the areas of criminal and constitutional law. During his last year at FTCC, he received the College’s Outstanding Instructor Award as well as the John and Suanne Roueche Excellence Award.
Larry Vick is married to Marilyn Vick, a retired elementary school teacher and native of Great Britain. They have a son, Justin, who teaches fourth grade in Aberdeen, MD. They also have a daughter, Megan, who is a professional entertainment writer and editor in Burbank, CA.
