William "Frankie" Blackmon Scholarship
From an early age, Frankie learned the importance of family and hard work. He also learned to love people, and he never met a stranger. Frankie quickly developed a passion for electrical work which would be his foundation for all manner of skills. If something needed to be fixed, he would complete the project to the highest possible standard.
Frankie achieved his electrical licensure and taught electrical courses at FTCC part time. Frankie applied his electrical skills to his job at Burlington Mills where he worked for 34 years. After leaving the mill, Frankie went to work at Glenflora, a local assisted living/nursing home, where he was in charge of maintenance and housekeeping. While the work Frankie did was important to the wellbeing of the residents, he would tell you that the people he saw every day were the real reason he loved his work. Frankie was very involved in the community as a member of the town planning board and assisting with local electrical jobs.
This scholarship is given to students who embody hard work and a dedication to excellence the same way Frankie did. It is our hope these students will take the time to build lasting relationships and friendships.
